According to a White House statement, President Barack Obama gave a congratulatory call to Abe on the poll victory.
The two leaders reaffirmed Monday evening the relationship between the two countries which they described was the "cornerstone of peace and security" in the East Asian region where tension between neighbours is brewing over a territorial dispute.
"Both sides reaffirmed the importance of the US-Japan alliance as the cornerstone of peace and security in the region," the statement said.
"The president and Abe discussed ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral security cooperation as well as deepening economic ties."
The statement added that Obama and Abe also stressed on the importance of close US-Japan cooperation on pressing regional and global issues.
Abe, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, Tuesday said that he would hold talks with Obama in January to intensify bilateral relations.
Abe was speaking during a meeting with Japan's powerful business lobby, the Japan Business Federation.
Japan's conservative LDP returned to rule the country after a landslide poll victory in Sunday's House of Representatives election securing 294 seats.
Its key ally, the New Komeito Party, got 31, which means the two-party coalition got 325 seats in the 480-member lower house.
This secures a two-third majority for the coalition, enough to override the upper house, where the present ruling Democratic Party of Japan is the largest single party.
The hawkish Abe is due to takeover as the prime minister Dec 26.
Obama's ties with previous DPJ-led governments in Japan have been hit by friction. But in recent times the bilateral relations has substantially improved.
According to analysts, Abe supports US military deployments in the region. Soon after his poll victory, Abe vowed to offer no compromise in an intensifying row over disputed islands with China.
