Sony Mobile Communications has launched its Xperia P smartphone in the Taiwan market in cooperation with Taiwan Mobile, and will also release the Xperia U and Xperia solar in the second quarter.
With the array of new Xperia models, Sony aims to take up a 30% share in the local Android smartphone segment in the second quarter of 2012, said Jonathan Lin, president of Sony Mobile Communications Taiwan.
Additionally, Sony also plans to launch 1-2 new models in Taiwan each quarter onward so as to maintain the buying spree for the Xperia lineup, Lin added.
Thanks to Sony's high brand image in Taiwan, the shift of the brand name from Sony Ericsson to Sony will help boost sales of Sony's smartphones in the local market, Lin noted.
Sony launched its Xperia S in Taiwan in March, with market watchers indicating that the Xperia S was likely to outperform Samsung's Galaxy S2 as the second bestselling smartphone model in the local market in the month, trailing after only Apple's iPhone 4S.
